CCSF to Honor Legendary Coach George M. Rush With Stadium Naming Ceremony
(SAN FRANCISCO, Wednesday, November 4, 2015)--City College of San Francisco will pay tribute to the winning-est coach in Community College football history, George M. Rush, on Saturday, November 7th at 1 p.m. by re-naming Ram stadium in Rush's honor at a halftime ceremony during this weekend's CCSF vs. De Anza game.
A beloved coach, City College legend, fearsome opponent, and one-of-a-kind mentor to thousands of students and families, George M. Rush is an icon of the sport and nationally famous for churning out generation after generation of student athletes that excel on and off the field.

Rush's 43-year coaching career resume reads like a laundry list of conceivable awards:
his 326 career wins are the most of any Community College coach in the history of the sport. He holds two national records for most consecutive wins (42 straight wins from 1999 to 2002 and 65 regular season wins in a row from 1996 to 2002), and brought home seven national titles, seven state titles, 14 Northern California titles, and 22 conference titles.
A San Francisco native and graduate of CCSF, Rush played Defensive Back for City College in 1966-7, becoming assistant coach in 1972 and Head Coach in 1977. In short order, Rush proved to be a master tactician with an uncanny talent for reaching and getting the best out of his student athletes.
But Coach Rush's impact at CCSF goes far beyond the confines of the gridiron.
Off the field, Coach Rush proved just as prolific in helping his students grow as scholars as well as athletes, scoring approximately 95 percent of his sophomores transfers to four-year colleges, from Oregon State to UC Berkeley to USC. More than 600 students during Coach Rush's career received scholarships to attend four-year colleges--amounting to well over $5 million in financial support for students who might never have had the opportunity without Coach Rush's program.
There can be no doubt that game after game, season after season, Coach Rush and his teams left everything on the field. It is fitting then, that the classroom Coach Rush gave everything to should bear his name--the highest honor City College can bestow on a member of its community.
The ceremony will include the unveiling of George M. Rush Stadium and speeches by Interim Chancellor Susan Lamb, Physical Education Athletics & Dance Department Chair Dan Hayes, Former Rams Football Player Gibril Wilson, and honoree, George M. Rush.
A cocktail reception for ticket-holders will take place at the CCSF School Cafeteria immediately following the conclusion of the football game. 50 dollars per ticket includes admission to the game and post-game cocktail reception. Attendees should enter through the South Gate adjacent to Parking Lot C (Player's Entrance).
