Undefeated teams rule football polls after seven games
SAN MATEO – City College of San Francisco remains the top choice of California Community College Football Coaches in this week’s JC Athletic Bureau poll, which had no change among the top four teams, all with 7-0 records. The Rams totaled 266 points, ahead of Riverside City College (263), Mt. San Antonio (256), and Fullerton (247). CCSF avenged a 2022 loss to then Bay 6 co-champion Laney, 32-15, last week. San Francisco hosts Diablo Valley this Saturday.
In the CCCSIA poll, CCSF and Riverside City are tied but the Rams garnered two more first-place votes. Regardless of the poll, voting is tight.
American River (6-1) moved up one spot to No. 6 after defeating then No. 5 Butte, 40-12, in their NorCal league showdown. The opportunist Beavers took a 31-0 lead before Butte finally got into the end zone in the middle of the third quarter. Butte (5-2) fell to No. 8 and next visits No. 11 Sierra (5-2), which remains unbeaten in the NorCal League. Defending 3C2A state champion College of San Mateo (6-1) moved up a place to No. 5 after topping Diablo Valley, 56-7, which was the only team to defeat the Bulldogs in 2022. CCSF and CSM share the Bay 6 lead at 2-0 and meet in the league finale. Two of the Valley league co-leaders clash Saturday when No. 15 Modesto visits No. 9 Reedley.
In the south, three teams co-lead the Southern League with 4-0 records: No. 2 Riverside, No. 4 Fullerton, and No. 13 Saddleback – all posting one-sided wins last week. Riverside entertains Saddleback this Saturday. In the Central League, No. 16 Long Beach will be at No. 7 Golden West. In the Northern League, No. 23 Bakersfield goes to No. 10 Ventura.
