Previous Polls:
SAN MATEO – Mt. San Antonio College is the third No. 1 team after three weeks of California Community College football competition, taking the top spot in this week’s JC Athletic Bureau poll of California Community College Football Coaches Association members. The Mounties received eight first-place votes and totaled 386 points to finish ahead of three Northern California unbeatens: No. 2 Butte (364 points), No. 3 Modesto JC (348), and No. 4 Fresno CC (345). That trio split the eight remaining first place votes. Modesto plays at Butte on Saturday.
Last week’s pacesetter, College of San Mateo (2-1), fell short at century-old rival Modesto JC, 23-20, and the reigning NorCal champs dropped to seventh this week (326 points), just behind defending state champion and first-week leader Riverside City College (331). Riverside had lost to Golden West College a week ago. Now No. 5 San Diego Mesa took care of GWC. the past weekend, 22-7. The top five teams are all unbeaten -- at 3-0.
The bi-weekly California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) poll of SIDs also has Mt. San Antonio at No. 1 with the Mounties followed by Modesto, Riverside, Butte and San Mateo in the top five.
