Trio of Coast North teams part of SIA Women's Basketball State Top 20

PASADENA - The Coast Conference North Division has impressed this season with now three teams occupying spots on this week's California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) Women's Basketball State Top 20 Rankings. Meanwhile, San Joaquin Delta is #1 but with only 12 first place votes while #2 Moorpark is getting more attention with the other three top votes at #2.

The Coast North features Chabot at #12, City College of San Francisco at #18 and poll newcomer Skyline now at #20. Skyline is the one with the commanding lead in conference play with a two wins lead over the other two. On a 7-game win streak, Skyline scored an overtime win over CCSF on Jan. 10, then downed Chabot in a 4-point win on Jan. 15. Last week, the Trojans picked up wins over Ohlone and College of San Mateo and now this week they face the big 2 again with a chance to take complete control of the conference race.

While the top nine spots did not change from the Jan. 28 poll, #11 Pasadena City jumped four spots after ending a 6-game, head-to-head road losing streak v. #19 East Los Angeles (dropped five spots) and rallying to beat unranked LA Trade Tech, a state tournament team last year that is a shocking 0-4 now halfway through South Coast Conference North Division play. PCC and #8 Mt. San Antonio, currently on a 10-game winning streak, will face off for sole possession of first place on Wednesday.

At #16 Butte also made noise in climbing three spots behind a 5-game win streak, including back-to-back wins over College of the Siskiyous. The Golden Valley Conference race could come down to this Saturday's matchup with #17 College of the Redwoods, winners of eight of its last nine contests. 

Delta (22-1) extended its win streak to 15 games and seem to be on course to the Big 8 title after its second conference win over #10 Sierra, 86-77. At #2, Moorpark (20-1) upped its win string to 12 with its third 100-plus point game in the past four games, defeating Santa Barbara City, 102-66. The Raiders also strengthened their quest for another Western State North Division crown with a win over #13 Ventura (71-62). The Pirates are reeling after being upset by unranked Allan Hancock, dropping three slots in the rankings.

At #3 Mt. San Jacinto (21-2) collected its 20th straight victory, a 90-point rout over Barstow. Palomar, rated #4, means business after last week's 59-point win over Southwestern and then 60-point triumph over Grossmont. Glendale, #5 ranked, added to a now 21-game win streak with wins last week over Citrus and West Los Angeles. At #6, Irvine Valley is on an 8-game win streak after victories over Fullerton and Golden West. 

Diablo Valley, rated #7 again, romped past Santa Rosa JC by 32 points and is a game back of Delta in the Big 8. At #9, Merced is the Central Valley's best with a win streak at eight, including last week's 82-point stomping over Porterville and its third victory of the season over Fresno City. 

MiraCosta, the #15-ranked squad, has won seven in a row since losing to #14 Cypress in early January. The Chargers fell two spots after an upset loss to unranked Riverside City. Previous #20 Rio Hondo fell out of the rankings but did beat Trade Tech last week.
