Long Beach, Delta move up in State Women's Basketball Top 25
With some big splash victories, Long Beach City College and San Joaquin Delta created movement in this week's CCCWBCA State Top 25 Poll.
The new #20 Vikings continue to be a recent thorn in the side of SoCal power Mt. San Antonio by shocking the Mounties, 68-66, in overtime on Jan. 15. It was LBCC that also upset Mt. SAC in the regional finals to advance to last year's 3C2A State Tournament.
At #10, San Joaquin Delta posted a win over #8 Sierra, 74-67, on Jan. 14 as the Mustangs moved into second place in the Big 8 Conference standings behind Folsom Lake.
College of the Sequoias remains undefeated at 20-0 and once again swept all 17 coaches' first-place votes again to score 425 points and top the state poll for yet another week.
Orange Coast takes over as the South's top-rated team at #2 (396 points), followed in the state top 10 by #3 Mt. SAC (387), #4 Moorpark (361), #5 Folsom Lake (351), #6 Laney (323), #7 Glendale (318), #8 Sierra (281), #9 San Jose CC (245) and #10 Delta (243).
The newest team to join the rankings is Antelope Valley at #24.

1. SEQUOIAS, Central Valley, 20-0: The Giants lead the CVC at 4-0 and picked up a 23-point victory over #22 Fresno CC last week. Jocelyn Medina is averaging a team-best 8 rebounds per game. Last Ranking: #1
2. ORANGE COAST, Orange Empire, 16-3: The Pirates are 3-0 and tied with #19 Fullerton for the OEC lead. Orange Coast hit triple digits in a 59-point win over Saddleback. Myia Collins averages 9.7 rebounds. OCC moves up a slot. Last Ranking: #3
3. MT. SAN ANTONIO, South Coast North, 16-4: The Mounties recovered from their loss to Long Beach with a 37-point triumph over Cerritos. Daisia Mitchell averages 7.9 rebounds. Mt. SAC drops a spot. Last Ranking: #2
4. MOORPARK, Western State North, 16-4: On a 9-game win streak, the Raiders are 4-0 to top the WSC North Division. MC collected wins over Cuesta and Allan Hancock. Mikayla Oliver averages 6.5 rebounds. Last Ranking: #4
5. FOLSOM LAKE, Big 8, 17-2: The Falcons have won nine straight and boast a 7-0 record for first in the Big 8. FLC downed American River by 21. Athena Brombacher averages 7.2 rebounds. Last Ranking: #5
6. LANEY, Bay Valley, 17-3: The Eagles have run away in the BVC standings at 8-0 with a staggering average winning margin per game v. conference opponents of 58 points. Tali Fa'i averages 9.7 rebounds. Last Ranking: #6
7. GLENDALE, Western State South, 13-3: The Vaqueros have won eight in a row and have a 3-0 mark playing one less game so far than fellow WSC South Division leader Antelope Valley. The two will face off on Jan. 25. Shadel Ffrench averages 10.8 rebounds. Last Ranking: #7
8. SIERRA, Big 8, 15-3: The Wolverines bounced back from their loss to Delta with an 18-point win over Sacramento CC. Sarah Reuter averages 9.2 rebounds. Last Ranking: #8
9. SAN JOSE CC, Coast South, 19-2: The Jaguars extended their win streak to 16 and pace the Coast South Division at 3-0. Hayley Johnson averages 9.3 rebounds. SJCC picks up a rating. Last Ranking: #10
10. SAN JOAQUIN DELTA, Big 8, 12-7: The Mustangs are one of three Big 8 teams now in the top 10. Delta has a chance to tie Folsom Lake for first in the conference when the two meet tonight (Jan. 21). Fajr Cuthberston averages 6 rebounds. Delta climbs two rungs on ladder. Last Ranking: #12
11. VICTOR VALLEY, Inland Empire Athletic, 15-3: The Rams saw a 12-game win streak go by the wayside in a non-conference upset loss to Rio Hondo, 74-69, on Jan. 18. VVC is knotted with Mt. San Jacinto for the IEAC lead, both at 6-0. Myla Gibson averages 8 rebounds. VVC slips two positions. Last Ranking: #9
12. MT. SAN JACINTO, Inland Empire Athletic, 15-3: The Eagles have won 11 consecutive contests and first place in the IEAC standings will be up for grabs on Jan. 25 when it hosts Victor Valley. Laisha Lazu is seventh in the state in rebounds at 12 per game. MSJC ascends a rank. Last Ranking: #13
13. CYPRESS, Orange Empire, 13-7: After losing three straight, the Chargers rebounded with a 3-point win over Santa Ana and beating Riverside by nine last week. Christaesha Jackson averages 10.1 rebounds. Cypress falls two places. Last Ranking: #11
14. SANTA BARBARA CC, Western State North, 15-4: The Vaqueros are second in the WSC North at 3-1 behind wins last week over Ventura and LA Mission. Isis Poteet averages 8.6 rebounds. Last Ranking: #14
15. SAN DIEGO MESA, Pacific Coast Athletic, 13-5: The Olympians are in third currently in the PCAC at 3-1, their only loss to Palomar, 79-69, on Jan. 8. Kendal Alloway averages 9.8 rebounds. Last Ranking: #15
16. PALOMAR, Pacific Coast Athletic, 12-6: The Comets are tied with unranked Imperial Valley for the PCAC lead, both at 4-0. Palomar have recent victories over Mesa and Grossmont, 63-56, and host Imperial Valley on Jan. 22. Kailani Flournoy is 12th in the state at 11.2 rebounds average. Palomar bolts up three spaces. 17. CERRO COSO, Inland Empire Athletic, 14-4: The Coyotes are in third in the tough IEAC at 4-2 and had a 4-game win string snapped by MSJC, 62-54, last week. Shaniyah McCarthy averages 10.3 rebounds. Last Ranking: #17
18. SANTA ROSA JC, Big 8, 13-6: The Bear Cubs stand fourth in the Big 8 at 4-3, but scored back-to-back wins over Sacramento and Modesto. Ivy Gonzalez averages 8.9 rebounds. SRJC stumbles four places. Last Ranking: #18
19. FULLERTON, Orange Empire, 15-4: The Hornets had a nice start to OEC play with victories over Riverside, Saddleback and Santa Ana. Xochitl Hood averages 8.8 rebounds. Fullerton jumps up two slots. Last Ranking: #21
20. LONG BEACH CC, South Coast South, 11-6: The Vikings are riding high after the Mt. SAC win and then posted triumphs over Pasadena CC and LA Trade Tech, 68-65. Brillana Boyd averages 9.4 rebounds. LBCC ignites up three places. Last Ranking: #23

22. FRESNO CC, Central Valley, 11-8: The Rams are 2-1 in CVC play following their loss to Sequoias. They just got past unranked Merced, 54-53, also last week. T'Yanna Armstrong averages 7.3 rebounds. FCC slides three ratings. Last Ranking: #22
23. GROSSMONT, Pacific Coast Athletic, 13-4: The Griffins were on a 7-game win streak but the PCAC gave them a gut punch in two close losses to Palomar and Imperial Valley. Janea Wilson averages 8.3 rebounds. Grossmont had to back up three blocks. Last Ranking: #20
24. ANTELOPE VALLEY, Western State South, 11-7: The Marauders were on a 3-game losing streak before rattling off a 4-0 start to WSC South Division play, including wins over Citrus and West LA. Shaniya Sinclair is sixth in the state in rebounding at 12.2 per game. The recent success meant AVC's entry into the top 25 this week. Last Ranking: NR
25. SAN MATEO, Coast North, 13-7: The Bulldogs are on 5-game win streak (won 8-of-last-9) are tied with CC San Francisco for the Coast North Division lead, both 3-0. The only loss in the recent successful stretch was a 2-point defeat to #6 Laney. Bree Hodge averages 7 rebounds. Last Ranking: #25
