5CTCA announces Runners of the Week for Sept. 6-7
September 17, 2024
SALINAS - Meets were in full swing in the third week from Woodward Park to Oxnard to San Bernardino the weekend of Sept. 6-7.
Jacob Perez (Bakersfield) impressed with his second consecutive win at the Clovis Crush Invitational at Woodward Park. He sped away from a pair of San Diego Mesa runners and Week #1 ROTW John Gutierrez of Allan Hancock to cross the line in 20:47. Perez will test his abilities next versus Week #2 ROTW Emmanuel Hernandez of Mt.SAC at the Socal Preview Meet.
Lilit Arakeylan of Glendale College took the win at the Oxnard Invitational running nearly 50 seconds faster than her freshman year. Arakeylan was a comfortable winner in 19:27 over Dana Ruiz of College of the Sequoias who was second in 19:36.
Up North in Fresno, Rhiannon Walker continued her fine running from the spring with a 32 second victory and the only performance under 19 minutes on the state meet course. Walker was sixth at last year's fall Championship in 18:24 and being 16 seconds off that in September makes her the early season favorite for the individual title.
Hartnell College's Jesse Blanco returned after a year away to be the top placing Norcal runner at the Clovis Crush Invitational. He placed seventh in 21:06 just ahead of the Norcal 1500m champion Alan Solari of Diablo Valley College. The two appear headed for a titanic battle for the regional title at Toro Park in November.
