Hartnell women, Butte men capture top honors at Butte College Cross Country Invitational

OROVILLE - The annual Butte Invitational was held on Oct. 11 at the Butte College main
campus. Since 2020, this race has experienced great attraction since it has been moved back to
our main campus. This year the invite hosted 8 teams from all around Northern California. It
included Hartnell, Monterey Peninsula, Sac City, San Joaquin Delta, De Anza, Shasta,
Redwoods and Simpson University. A total of 125 athletes competed on Friday morning that
day.
The first race of the day, the men set off on our four-mile course with top-quality performances.
Coming in first overall on this challenging course was Hartnell’s Jesse Blanco with a time of
(21:03). With this time he has inserted himself as 2nd all-time on the course record book. A pair of Butte runners Stephen Chapdelaine and Mark Velazquez were not too far behind. The top
finisher coming in 2nd overall was Buttes’ Phillip Logan (21:16). This was a new Butte team
record on this course since it was established in 2020. Butte (40) edged out Hartnell (43) by a
close three points. Coming in 3rd was De Anza (60) and 4th Monterey Peninsula. A total of 7
full teams scored at the invitational that day.
In the women’s 5k race Hartnell’s women were the top two overall finishers that day. Roselyn
Olive, who came in first with a time of 20:07 placed her 2nd all-time on the women's course
record book and her teammate Janai Orozco, finishing 2nd (20:33), was good enough for 5th all-time for the course. Rounding out the top 5 finishers were Butte’s Jennifer Johnson (20:53), Sac
City’s Katelyn Wong (21:11) and De Anza’s Mackenzie (21:15). The field saw 4 full teams score.
Hartnell took home the win with 28 points following Butte (51), De Anza (65), and Monterey
Peninsula (89).
